Warm and cool at the same time. Covering, yet revealing. Classic, but innovative. Silke Debler transforms the glove from utilitarian essential to avant-garde it-piece. “My mission is to show the forgotten potential, elegance, and power of this accessory”, she explains. In Silke Debler’s designs, seductive shapes trace the lines of the hand and arm, while prominent cuffs stand out boldly. Silver bracelet elements draw the eye, delivering a signature feminine luxury, and patchwork or color-blocked patterns create new energy.

London, New York, Berlin. German-born Silke Debler graduates with Honors from the London College of Fashion in 2004, then works for Vivienne Westwood and Luella. An assignment as head of design for Jill Stuart brings her to New York and, while styling runway collections, she becomes infatuated with accessories, falling in love with the glove.

Returning to Berlin in 2012 she launches her namesake glove line to immediate success, garnering the attention of Lady Gaga, a devotee who wears Debler’s styles in music videos and for public appearances.

Silke Debler’s extravagant gloves grace the pages of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and Elle. Dubbed “an innovative designer and maestro” by The New York Times and an “international young talent” by Collezioni Magazine, in 2015 Silke Debler wins the Young Designers Award for Accessories from international fashion trade show Premium.

Titled “Nouvelle Gloves”, cult cinema French-style sets the tone for this SILKE DEBLER FALL/WINTER 2017/18 collection of opulent gloves. Design inspiration derives from Romy Schneider’s seductively feminine look in the 1971 film “Max et les ferrailleurs”- glossy patent leather and peek-a-boo lace inserts in rich black nappa for those in the mood for glove. At the same time, dynamic elements come courtesy of “Un homme et une femme’”(1966), with its race car scenes and romance. Luxuriously soft lambskin in contrasting traffic signal colors and refined details add an elegance to sporty styling, resulting in modern accessories for the everyday adventurer.

Technicolor tones of poppy red, bottle green and hot pink contrast with elegant black. Driving gloves boast shining studs, while lace races alluringly up arms and wrists. Pinstriped pairs in black and white go off-road with vibrant canary yellow accents. Sporty details like elasticated wristbands and contrast inserts, piping, and zippers frame the boldly colored lambskin for sophisticated finish lines. And there’s more: l’amour. Hearts in luxe rabbit fur atop smooth leather quicken the pulse, while fox fur pompoms and lambskin cuffs are cuddly chic. Black patent leather gleams darkly, with flashing glimpses of red and yellow. Deep curved cuts highlight the wrist, which is at the same time draped with silver chain bracelets: glove becomes jewelry.

From short to feature length, Silke Debler’s Fall/Winter 2017/18 collection has a full cast of options. There are cropped scooped styles, classic wristlets, medium lengths, fitted elbow, and dramatic opera length. Each design epitomizes the designer’s philosophy to create lush new unique pieces of the utmost quality. There’s another premiere this season: a range of coordinating leather bracelets, which can be worn atop the gloves as a special accent, or on their own as an eye-catching accessory.

From versatile basics to extravagant statement pieces, Berlin-based Silke Debler combines innovative design with traditional craftsmanship and exquisite quality. Silke Debler transforms the glove from has-been to must-have, showing the forgotten potential, elegance, and power of this accessory. The collection is available in selected boutiques across Europe and online at www.silkedebler. com
