bARBARA Ì gONGINI is a Faroese brand based in Denmark.
The aim of the company is to create Nordic clothing based on a conceptual approach to the process, where experiments with forms provide the setting for the visual motive in the design.

bARBARA í gONGINI creates clothing which is at the leading edge of the trade. bARBARA Ì gONGINI, furthermore, participates very actively in the artistic debate in the Nordic countries. During the work, interdisciplinary co-operation with other artists within music, photography, film, etc, is emphasised and this co-operation nourishes inspiration during the design process itself.

bARBARA í gONGINI comprises two lines of women’s wear: bARBARA I gONGINI main line, and B/Black, a regular line.
The collection represents these two extreme points, but must be seen as a coherent whole.
bARBARA i gONGINI – Is the creative part of the two lines where play and experiments are tested based on varying themes and it is here that art and design meet.

The results of the above process form the basic elements in the other part of the collection and present the subtle profile of the brand.
B/Black– Is a simplification of the above and is the more commercial line of the collection and the purpose is to create a more basic line of women’s wear with a very personal and original expression of form.

High quality and artistic responsibility comprises all parts of the processes. This contributes to local and global responsibility towards our customers for our products.

Barbara Ì Gongini graduated in 1996 from Denmarks Design School, Institute of Unica Design. She has been involved in many design related activities and has received several design awards and grants. Furthermore, Barbara Ì Gongini has been a member of several design adjudicating committees, etc.
In 2008 Barbara Ì Gongini was awarded a work-grant from the Danish Arts Agency, a unit of the Danish Ministry of Culture.

bARBARA I gONGINI is pushing boundaries in ethical fashion. The collections androgynous, futuristic and simplistic (with subtle intricacies) bears no signs of compromising style for the sake of sustainability. Barbara’s Nordic roots are evident in her uncomplicated designs and largely monochromatic shades ’’black and white, and some shades of grey have always been my palette. ’’

Strong geometric cuts to soft ovoid silhouettes, focusing on the versatility of individual garments, enabling them to be worn however the customer wishes: is the core importance of the collections. ’Tthe whole concept is about using things in different ways, keeping the form as open as possible so the customer keeps an interaction with their particular style’’
.

Photographer Niclas Jessen and Barbara I Gongini collaborate in the compilation of the catalogue AW09-10.

Every year Barbara I Gongini is part of an artistic collaboration compiling a catalogue or other media aiming to present the upcoming collection in a new way. This year the collaboration was a photography project with Niclas Jessen and the angle was “an unpretentious play on words and sentences relating to clothes and motives”

Fashion is more than mere clothing. Artistic thought exceeds limits of any representation.
