  Please, Could you introduce yourself?
I´m educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Design. I started out doing textile design, but after 1,5 year in school I decided to start all over again and changed to fashion design.

How did you get started?
Looooong story coming up:
3 years ago I started a collaboration with a Danish bag brand. The deal was; I designed, they produced. The reason for doing a collaboration instead of starting my own company was to be able to focus on the design alone. However I ended up being in charge of the production and administration as well so in the end the advantages of being in a collaboration was absent. So in January 2011 I decided to end the collaboration to start my own company and it felt like a kind of a continuation of the work I had done before. However lots of paper work, more administration, hours and money were needed to carry out my idea alone. But so far it has been worth every penny and minute spend.

What is your work about?
Right now it is most about building and developing a company. As this is my first year on my own to be honest the most of my work hours are spend with administration. Besides that I of course handle the design and strategy. But even if the business part is as far away from my education as possible I love every aspects of it. I´ve never dreamt of having my own company but now that I have it I really want to succeed in it and built it up in the right way. It is not only about me anymore but also my co workers, interns and how I see them grow with the company. I have a team who I depend on and love to work with and that´s an amazing feeling. I´m a bit surprised to see that even the rainy days filled with numbers in excel I have to commit myself to can be interesting when it´s my company.

Is there a specific reason why you chose handbags design?
(Is it a means to express yourself as an artist or do you simply see it as an interesting profession?)

I find accessory in general interesting mostly because it is more about the material and shape rather than the latest trend. These are my key focuses and what inspires me the most. I don´t see myself as an artist. To me my profession is all about communication. I design something which is in my head and people receives it. It means we are somehow in the same level of communication even if we don´t know or see eachother. I love that designing bags is mostly about the shape and material.

Is there anything specific that you feel makes you different from others in your work?
The design and look of my collections is very simple yet every piece has a recognisability to the people who knows it.
There is a thin line between anonymity and simplicity and this is really my main challenge -that the design is not invisible. When I succeed in this I think I´m very good at leaving out this last unnecessary detail that the designer usually adds and this is hopefully one of the reason that people buys my design.

Can you tell us something about the design process?
The best way for me to get inspiration is definitely to develop the product with the artisans that each has their specialised area. In general I´m very fascinated by people who can do something with their hands. Sometimes a trade far away from my field inspires me the most. But also I´m most effective when I don´t have too much time to think. What I find most inspiring about working for myself and not being in school anymore is that I don´t need to make a mood board or do sketches. Or even explain why the collections looks like they do. I can finally allow myself to admit that it does not inspire me to structure the design process (but structure is needed everywhere else in the company!) or try to make my design process look intellectual when it is really more intuitive.
When I travel all alone I often find a lot of inspiration.
But there is not really a ritual.

Can you identify a stage (or stages) during the creative process you find the most gratifying? And the least gratifying?
Surely it is to see that every piece in the collection is always received in some way. I always try to leave a few pieces in the collection even if I´m not completely sure I understand them. These pieces are often the ones that ends up in the coolest stores outside Denmark. The diversity of my collections gives me the change to show more sides of me. So I hope that I will never be forced to standardise the look of my collections in order to concentrate more on one market. The least gratifying is when the production does not work.

If you had to choose just one color and one type of material to make an important piece, what would they be?
It would be black lamb leather since this is the quality I preferred to work with ever since I was child and made the first bag for my daisy doll (a cheaper version of Barbie)

In our books, our aim is to show only truly interesting and original work that is created with artistic integrity. We want to show alternatives to the quick-consumption culture and over-commercialization. Do you have any thoughts about this? Does it affect you? Or is it just a fact of life?

I think it is a positive idea. I´m moving as much of my production from China to Italy as possibly over the next couple of seasons in order to be able to develop the collections there and make them as focused as possible. Hopefully my clients will be able to feel that every piece in the collection is made to be kept for as long as possible instead of exchanging every season.

What role does you work play in your life?
No doubt a big one. Some times too big. I have a husband and 3 kids and I don´t see them very often during the week as I work at my office many hours each day. However I try to stay out of work during the weekends and I think is important for a child to see their parent being involved and passionate about their work besides their family and friends.

Can you tell us something about how you see the current state of your profession in general?
(Is it a good time or not? Are there things happening you find interesting or that you fear? Is there interesting work coming from other parts of the world? Etc.)

Even if it is a bit nerve-racking that the recession is still such a big issue I also find it exciting and necessary that the competition is fierce. In the end it will discard some brands and companies that the consumer is much more demanding but it also forces the companies to do it´s best. And maybe think twice before new pieces are being developed.

What is vulgar to you? and what elegant?
Too much. Less

What does beauty means for you?
That depends on what kind of beauty you mean. Beauty right now to me is the love for my family, my friends and people that surrounds me. It sounds so trivial, I know but that was the first thing that hit me. If you mean beauty design wise I have to think much more.
