VAVA EYEWEAR: FUTURISTIC EYEWEAR

"At a time when fashion is omnipresent and somehow random, we at VAVA believe it is necessary to reorientate and to reacquaint what fashion should truly represent: A return to the essential requirements of design and quality.
VAVA’s leitmotif is to offer a high quality product which embodies the experience, knowledge and art of the great masters of handmade eyewear. Knowledge that is gradually being lost in a time when mass-production flourishes and the use of low quality materials dominates. Nowadays, very few manufacturers are capable of delivering hand-made expertise passed down from generation to generation. This approach, combined with the use of the highest quality materials, makes VAVA unique".

Berlin-based Portuguese eyewear brand was officially launched in June 2014. The futuristic brand has its roots in music, inspired by early techno music – especially from Detroit. The city’s post-industrial degraded futurism holds a special appeal for Vava founder Pedro da Silva, as do the clean lines of Bauhaus design.
Vava’s mostly unisex sunglass collection is built on strong geometries, and split into two lines – the minimalist White Label and the forceful fashion-forward Black Label. The use of flat lenses across the entire range harks back to 1980s design where geometric shapes were distinctly in style.
Vava Eyewear can be found in select high-end optical dealers including Punto Ottico shops around Italy and in New York and concept stores such as Suus in Madrid and Daad Dantone in Milan.

THE INSPIRATION
"We are inspired by post-industrial cities, such as Detroit, once symbols of innovation and prosperity which subsequently fell into collapse and decay. These cities were reinvented by the citizens to ensure survival. During this time, the Techno movement emerged as a guiding force for this process of rebirth. Indeed, when Techno appeared in the 80s it was part of a movement towards the creation of a Techno City, the city of the future, where technology would emerge as salvation.
VAVA’s mission is to emulate these citizens, representing the human in control of the technological world.
In an environment of high-speed culture, turbo capitalism, media overload, digital revolution, ecstasy of consumption, mega trends and accelerated culture, VAVA eyewear represents deceleration, purism and metaphysics. The structure and design of the eyewear is not just physical – think of pollution, dust, UV, etc. – but creative. It permits the wearer the spiritual space to focus on a ‘mind over matter’ asceticism and a personal dose of reinterpreted perspective".

THE FUTURE
The present is real, the future is a vision.
VAVA is a vision of the future inspired by the post-industrial world and the vision of Detroit’s Techno Future, with its belief in the post-human age.
VAVA imagines a future between two contrasting extremes, black and white
White future is simplicity, cleanness and purity. Black future is darkness, decay and underground.
White is Black and Black is White.
A gleaming white plastic, antiseptic future is a dark vision and a warning that technology will de-humanize society.
In this vision the lines between human and machine will become blurred, humans will become incapable of exhibiting emotions, machines will become increasingly human.
In the dark, grimy world of the Black future human society must utilize technology to rise up and oppose oppressive, authoritarian power to save the biosphere.
Within these borders the future reality lies.

VAVA’s glasses have a sophisticated, contemporaneous and urban look. They are relaxed, subtly futuristic, conceptual and timeless.
VAVA imagines a future between two contrasting extremes, black and white. White future is simplicity, cleanness and purity. Black future is darkness, decay and underground. To represent this vision VAVA has created these contrasts; the White Label and the Black Label.

"VAVA has not compromised when it comes to fittings, clean lines, attention to detail and quality. Nothing about the product is arbitrary or created by chance.
The "body" of the glasses is crafted with cellulose acetate from the Italian brand Mazzucchelli, a company that has produced acetate since 1849 and is one of the most innovative companies in the field of plastics, with outstanding standards of quality and finishing.
VAVA lenses are made from the finest crystal manufactured by Barberini. Not only do we use the best lens producer, we are unique in using flat glass across the sunwear range. Aesthetically, flat lenses hark back to industrial innovation of the 1980s, when geometrical flat forms were considered en vogue.
The VAVA hinge is exclusive and strongly influenced by artist Sol Lewitt. In his thinking all open, modular structures originate from the cube. We have created a cubed hinge from aerospace aluminium, an extremely light material with exceptional physical and mechanical properties. The hinge is produced by a high-grade industrial cutting process, developed in close collaboration with our supplier. Within the cubed hinge rotates a cylinder, in a fully integrated, durable mechanism.
