Marseille launches the Mediterranean Fashion Prize (MFP)



The international fashion designers have never asked for joining in this kind of competition before…

After their product positioning analyze, since 2010 the Maison Méditerranéenne des Métiers de la Mode (MMMM) brought in a new global
and unreleased approach for the young fashion designers established
all over the Mediterranean.

Discover talents, but after all, enhance their commercial visibility, their business plan, make their branding sustainable in their own countries and internationally, become an example to follow, and at least federate a new generation of brands linked by the Mediterranean.

A first promotion and one goal reached for the 21 young euromediterranean fashion designers from the Maison de la Creation.

Enthusiastics experts, public and private partners conviced by the results:
18 of them carry on with a controled development.

Launch of the Second cycle 2014-2015
More daring and inovating, the Maison Méditerranéenne des Métiers de la Mode launches the “Mediterranean Fashion Prize” (MFP) , with an online platform www.mfprize.org and a prestigious address book.

An unreleased online coaching approach, animated by 7 experts and supervised by a scientific comitee in order to transmit required skills to these young fashion managers and creatives in order to develop their communication and brand strategy.

From July 16th to July 19th, during the event MEET’IN Marseille, the 10 selected laureates will meet the 7 experts, our partners, business advisors and media.

Could you please introduce yourself?
The Maison Méditerranéenne des Métiers de la Mode’s board offered me to go hand in hand with this organization and its leadership in terms of education, emerging designers and creation support in an euromediterranean dimension and territorial dimensions.

What are the main reasons to create a Mediterranean Fashion Prize like this one?
All our missions certify Marseille as Euromediterranean Fashion Metropolis. That legitimacy is due to the collaborations with our euromediterranean partners, federations and associations which are a part of  the new generation of fashion businessmen  to highlight and go on with. Since 2010, the Maison de la Creation has participated to development of 21 young brands development. The Mediterranean Fashion Prize (mfprize.org) carries on with this initiative putting in for the first time, a digital version and every laureate will get an individual coaching from our experts referee in each field.

Who is behind this project and what are the expectations of the project in a long term period?
The MMMM’s got a representative board in the main sectors of the fashion industry, an elitist training system, luxe and fashion industry. Through the MFP they promote the knowledge transfer with a profession which needs strong experience and a professional international network.

What are the most rewards that a designer can expect from this Mediterranean Fashion Prize?
A euro-Mediterranean positioning, 10 partners countrIes : Spain, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Lebanon, Morocco, Portugal, Tunisian, Turkey.
To win a complete online training process, design, marketing of products, communication, brand and business management. To be recognize as an established and competitive brand in the international market. To have the key to develop profitable his distribution, sales and marketing. To begin to have a international or almost an european fame.

What was the criteria to choose the panel of experts?
The criteria was to contact to professionnal experts in their business categories. To mix experts with specific functions to be complementary each of them to coach the most complete way. The commun of each of them is the passion of fashion and experience in the business and branding management.

What are you looking for in a portfolio designer when you look at their collections?
We are looking about coherence between the positioning, identity, price and marketing in the portfolio designer. We are also sensible about the concept of the brand and also if they are already established in their countries, it s a good argument for the experts in the selection.

Specialized experts will provide a full and personalized training but, could you tell us more about this training, what is this training about?
It will be a online and digital coaching animated by 7 referent experts and supervised by a scientific committee to give at this young fashion designer the expertise necessary for their communication and brand strategy.

They will win formation of 6 months with individual coaching : 
-Collection process
-Production
-International marketing
-Business plan
-Communication, image, social networks
-Management, 
-Intellectual property
The winners will meet experts and key persons mid of July in Marseille during an event called Meet'in.
8.- Last laureates since 2010 where selected but, could you tell us what was about these designers since then? or, if any of these get anything since they were chosen?
The first cycle has revealed 21 Euro Mediterranean laureates from Spain, France, Israel, Italy, Lebanon, Morocco, Portugal, Tunisia and Turkey. 80 % of laureates has developed their companies and 20 % are still artisans.

Would you stand out any of these last fashion designers selected?
Thanks to Maison de la Creation, José Castro from Spain and Paolo Errico from Italy has develop your brands nicely.
Jose Castro: “Opinions were sometimes divergent or even contradictory, but it was thanks to these different viewpoints that each of us was able to form his own analysis and to improve. We were given a unique experience.” and Paolo Errico:“My meetings over a week each month with professionals gave me food for thought. It was difficult, involving a lot of juggling with my diary. However, I got my project into focus, reflected urther and developed new commercial contracts, particularly through my participation in the Who’s
Next salon and the MC21 showroom.

What are the future plans for this prize?
Give the floor to, gather and promote this Young generation of euromediterranean fashion businessmen and fall within a cultural, economic and international approach.  In 2016, closing event the 2 previous Maison de la Creation editions in Marseille with: the first euromediterranean fashion biennial. More tan 60 laureates, exhibitions, conferences, happening associate with cultural, local organizations as the Friche Belle de Mai, the Mucem, the Villa Méditerranée, the Frac, the M Galerie.

Where would you like to position this Mediterranean Fashion Prize?
Today in France and internationally, the young brands are requested by different competitions and prestigious grant. The MFP makes the difference bringing to several laureates an uncommon experience from a common geographical area: thanks to this experience, within their companies, laureates have the chance to discuss about their problems encountered with experts referee. The MFP federates them and gives us the chance to face up and Exchange with their counterparts.

To finish, could give an advice for those who are going to present their portfolio or collection this year?
Today we are waiting more on what we call " Intelligent fashion" but without forget to cultivate always fashion collection with emotion and passion, it's the best way to surprise the experts and give the way to jump in their world.
