Fashion competition selection

The 28th edition of the Hyères International Festival of Fashion and Photography will take place from the 26th until the 29th of April, 2013, at the villa Noailles. The exhibitions held at the villa will be on display until the 26th of May. Each year, the festival fosters and offers its support to young artists in the fields of fashion and photography through its competitions. Several prizes are given thanks to the Festival’s partners.

This year, the fashion jury, under the presiding judge Felipe Oliveira Baptista, convened on the 27th of January, in Paris, in order to select the 10 candidates for the final competition (355 entrants, 60 nationalities, 53 shortlisted candidates).
The members of the jury, gathered in Paris were:
• Felipe Oliveira Baptista, fashion designer, creative director Lacoste, Paris
• Liesbeth Abbenes, photographer, Amsterdam
• Delphine Roche, associate editor-in-chief, Numéro magazine, Paris
• Maurice Scheltens, photographer, Amsterdam
• Imran Amed, editor-in-chief, The Business of Fashion, London
• Barbara Coutinho, director, MUDE - the Museum of Design and Fashion, Lisbon
• Mark Holgate, fashion news director, Vogue US, New York
• Paula Reed, fashion director, Harvey Nichols, London along with other leading lights – to be announced – will complete the jury and assemble together for the festival, in Hyères.
The jury has selected 10 young designers, of 9 different nationalities:
• Tomas Berzins & Victoria Feldman, Latvia - Russia, women collection
• Henning Jurke, Germany, men collection
• Camille Kunz, Switzerland, men collection
• Yvonne Poei-Yie Kwok, The Netherlands, women collection
• Xénia Lucie Laffely, France - Switzerland, men collection
• Satu Maaranen, Finland, women collection
• Marion de Raucourt, France, women collection • Damien Ravn, Norway, women collection
• Shanshan Ruan, China, women collection
• Xing Su, Canada, women collection

The 10 designers will present to the public their first collection in a series of three fashion shows directed by Maida Gregori-Boina.

The 10 shortlisted photographers’ works will be presented in a collective exhibition in the villa Noailles from the 27th of April to the 26th of May. Photographic exhibitions’ curators: Raphaëlle Stopin and Jean-Pierre Blanc.

Organised around these two competitions are installations and exhibitions through which the villa Noailles gathers together industry leaders as well as young talents from these two disciplines. Talks with the designers and photographers will also be organised.

Taking place in parallel with the festival are the Rencontres Internationales du Textile et de la Mode, which are reserved for the festival-goers, and will take place between the 26th and the 29th of April. They are organised by the Fédération Française de la Couture, du Prêt-à-Porter des Couturiers et des Créateurs de Mode (French Federation of Fashion and of Ready-to-Wear of Couturiers and Fashion Designers). The year’s themes will be announced at a later date.
