Cara&Co Presents:

CARA&CO/ SYNERGY OF ART & FASHION
In support THE SOUND WORLD Charity foundation Rosa Alpert (founder and CEO) and Alexey Oleshov (founder and Creative Director) are the visionary minds behind CARA&CO; Russia’s 1st ever understated luxury retail emporium. In a land renowned for its unequivocal taste for the ostentatious and flamboyant, CARA&CO undeniably stands out as the anti-conformist retail feature per definition. Add to this a self proclaimed philanthropy and a core engagement in
charitable works and you hold a business model that should be awarded the Nobel Prize for responsible entrepreneurial-ship.

Located right in the heart of Moscow’s WINZAVOD Contemporary Art Centre, CARA&CO boosts an idiosyncratic mix of Art & Fashion that challenges all preconceptive ideas about how a luxury store should appear; CARA&CO advocates the more truthful side of fashion by first conveying the core stylistic values of its designer labels in opposition to fronting a sterile portfolio of luxury related tags that are only the mere entrance tickets to the theatre of appearances. With a unique company’s motto NO LOGOS ONLY FASHION, CARA&CO has managed to instate a strong mark on the international fashion landscape and has quickly become a must stop shopping destination for the smart set of international fashionistas; the store has been ranked by The Wall Street Journal and The Observer on the list of the10 best Boutiques worldwide alongside other prominent stores such as l’Eclaireur, Colette, Corso Como and Jeffreys.

CARA&CO has given Carte Blanche to Jean-Paul Knott, Charlie Le Mindu, Anne Valerie Hash, Christophe Coppens, Tim Van Steenbergen, Akira Isogawa, Casey Vidalenc, Queene and Belle, Tzuri Gueta, Zambesi and the luxury leather goods manufacturer Delvaux to create 1 garment and a wall art piece. The aim is to translate the multidisciplinary evolution between the worlds of Fashion, Art and Design to help induce new business energy and further artistic inspiration and invite the reflection of the existing Zeitgeist.

The designs will be presented during the exhibition CARA&CO - Synergy of Art & Fashion which will launch during the next Paris fashion Week FW11-12 and will subsequently travel to Moscow, Sydney, Seoul, Shanghai & Berlin art directed by the American artist Sean McGinnis. The final exhibition will host a private auction sale and all the proceeds will go to CARA&CO charity organization “THE SOUND WORLD” that helps generate funds for the under-privileged children which are suffering from hearing impaired condition.

CASEY VIDALENC
www.caseyvidalenc.com
Designers Gareth Casey and Phillipp Vidalenc love fabric so much they never throw out even a single scrap. Each and every piece created by this Anglo-French label is entirely unique. Found at the legendary Dover Street Market in London, Casey Vidalenc pieces are 100% handmade including even handwritten labels. The designers themselves describe their work as culinary, materials and fabrics are ingredients to complete their recipes, which finish in the form of avant-garde fashion collections.
Bold experimentation in textures, dying methods and prints, like combining rough flax with delicate silk, burlap with printed satin and polka dots and stripes, create this label’s inimitable aesthetic language.

CHRISTOPHE COPPENS
www.christophecoppens.com
Extreme irony, charm, and creativity are some of the main elements that encompass the Christophe Coppens style. Trained as a theatre director and actor, he soon started directing his own plays, as well as designing the costumes. In 1990, he opened his own studio and started his career in the fashion industry. Busy while making his own womens, menswear, accessory and even haute couture collections, he created hats for Yohji Yamamoto and Guy Laroche; began working with the Belgian Royal family; had exhibitions and performances all over the world, launched an interior products range; and opened his own boutiques in Belgium and
Japan.
A favorite among fashion forward entertainers like Roisin Murphy, Beth Ditto and Rihanna, his style is truly one-of-a-kind. A humorous, surrealistic mixture of pop culture, everyday life/objects/situations and nature; such as sequinned bloody butcher knives on dainty pill box hats, gingham deer capes, and masquerade sunglasses
to name just a few.

DELVAUX
www.delvaux.com
In Brussels 1829 Charles Delvaux founded the oldest fine leather luxury goods company in the world, even one year before the creation of the Belgian state. His hand-crafted travel trunks quickly gained universal admiration amongst the cognoscenti. Since 1883, Delvaux has been a warrant holder to the Court of Belgium. Every Delvaux product is made by hand, using traditional leatherworking techniques handed down from generation to generation. There is no assembly line. Many of the tools, which the craftsmen use, have been made by hand themselves.
In 1938, Delvaux became the first company to introduce the idea of Autumn/Winter and Spring/Summer collections to the fine leather goods market. This philosophy guarantees
their customers that each item is one of an extremely limited edition.
The quality of the leathers selected is always of upmost importance for the House. The
leather cutter, the seamstresses and the master craftsmen all assemble Delvaux bags
and objects work with just one quality: the finest.

His signature style is known throughout the world for pure minimalist silhouettes that are a delicate balance of feminine and masculine elements exuding an intellectual and androgynous allure. These finds are then applied by hand creating customised vintage dresses, kilts and scarves. Their handmade designs combine modern styling with artisan techniques such as hand intarsia and hand embroidery.

TIM VAN STEENBERGEN
www.timvansteenbergen.com
A graduate of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, in 2002 Tim Van Steenbergen
launched his own company in Belgium and in the same year presented his first collection in Paris. Motivated by traditional craftsmanship and impeccable quality, these elements give an immediate exclusivity to his designs.
His unique use of extremes from stark color schemes, intense hand-made details, geometrical forms, unsurprisingly attracts artistic fields outside of the fashion world. TZURI GUETA
www.tzurigueta.com
Scientific and adventurous, textile and accessory designer Tzuri Gueta uses a mixture of technologically advanced and traditional techniques to create pieces that resemble miracles of nature, such as earrings in the shape of morning dew drops, a choker shaped like antelope antlers, a bracelet in the form of a cactus, or a clutch purse resembling coral from the ocean.
His work, a combination of organic and futuristic elements, is featured in the most prominent Haut Couture collections like Mugler, Armani, Dior, Rochas and Givenchy. Based in Paris, just this year, he launched his own jewelry accessories line. Like a scientist he experiments with a number of materials. As of late, his main passion is silicone, which allows him to create pieces that are virtually optical illusions.

ZAMBESI
www.zambesi.co.nz
Neither French constructivism, nor English ingenuity, nor Italian luxury, Zambesi, hailing from Auckland, New Zealand, combines all these elements creating its own unique style. Founded in 1979, the designer Elisabeth Findlay set out to propose clothing that evoked and intrigued, embracing the philosophy of individualism, replacing conventions by ironic pragmatism.
Establishing her style from the beginning using a palette of monochromatic colors and futuristic combinations of textures, found in silk jumpsuits and overalls, ballskirts, patchwork suits and one-size-fits-all tunics, proposing pieces that are fresh, elegant and unbelievingly functional.

SEAN MC GINNIS
www.mcginnis.fr
American sculptor Sean McGinnis was born in 1965 in the plains of Kansas (USA). Based in Paris since 1997, this internationally renowned artist’s work is a concept of sculptures mainly consisting of simple strings and/or industrially woven ropes articulated to create architectural arches or hybrid forms that use only the existing hanging points of the sites they invest. The vibrant colors of the strings that form these floating sculptures, tend to score a high contrast with the places where they evolve, whether urban or in the middle of green and luscious nature.
